About this opportunity

Middleton Group is looking for a passionate principal design manager to deliver exceptional results to our customers, driving strong and enduring trust based relationships that supports repeat business and overall business growth.

Key responsibilities:

  • Managing the delivery of complex technical projects to deliver business outcomes, including zero harm, on time delivery of quality work to the agreed budget in line with Middleton Group’s Project Delivery Framework
  • Manage internal and external stakeholders to proactively identify, monitor and address key project risks and issues
  • Managing multiple projects and budgets to national and international customers
  • Drive repeat business and business growth through exceptional project delivery

Technical Depth & Breadth

  • Consistently demonstrates high levels of technical knowledge, ingenuity and creativity
  • Demonstrates advanced knowledge in project management principles, theories and concepts
  • Sound understanding and proven application of project management principles

Guidance / Initiative

  • Leading a team to ensure projects from start to finish maintaining a high standard of quality, safety, are within cost and in agreed time frames
  • Leading, coaching and uplifting the capability of your team
  • Self-supervising within expectations of senior management
  • Provides guidance to departments/many groups of the organization
  • Acts independently to advise the top organizational level in Middleton Group and external organisations
  • Exercises comprehensive discretion in judgment and initiative in setting & implementing goals
  • Coordinate and lead continuous improvement across all levels of the organization

Communication / Interpersonal Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a strong ability to influence
  • Ability to understand, communicate and manage complex engineering programs
  • Strong expertise in managing conflicting commercial agendas and requirement for technical levels to be met
  • Well-developed interpersonal, negotiation and problem-solving capability
  • Proactive approach to relationship building within and across project teams
  • Ability to prepare and deliver high quality communications suitable for management and external stakeholders (both written and verbal)

Eligibility

The successful candidate will:

  • Hold a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering (BEng)
  • Be an Australian citizen or an Australian permanent resident
  • 15 years of relevant industry experience
  • Show proficiency level for technical tasks associated with relevant practice area
  • Able to effectively train people outside his/her workgroup
  • Able to give effective presentations to critical/high-level customers and effectively represent workgroup on review panels and cross-organizational teams
  • Can write convincing proposals and reports with all necessary backup material for external consumption
  • Target utilisation average is 80%+
