Enhancing the safety of wind farms with detailed Harmonics Study

Overview

The harmonic emission level of the confidential wind farm was analysed against the threshold provided by the utility / AEMO.​

Challenge

Analysing and interpreting the harmonic emission levels at the point of connection for a wind farm​.

Solution

Multiple scenarios were modelled considering wind turbine operating points and network configurations.

Preliminary harmonic filter parameters were specified to ensure compliance with the National Electricity Rules (NER).

Results

Middleton Group determined that the wind farm’s harmonic emissions complied with the National Electricity Rules. A harmonic filter was not required for the project with appropriate steps taken to work with the client and project stakeholders to deliver to their timeframes and keep the project on schedule.
