Our Digital Design team produces traditional 2D drawings, 3D CAD models for civil and structural projects and building information models (BIM) showing civil, structural, electrical and utility services.

How we can help

  • Comprehensive electrical plans during tender, detailed, and as-built design phases
  • Accurate and detailed electrical models within building structures up to LoD 500
  • Seamless multi-disciplinary collaboration, ensuring coordination among architects, engineers, and stakeholders
  • Establishment, maintenance and management of a common data environment within the BIM framework, ensuring efficient data-sharing and communication across disciplines
  • Development and implementation of BIM execution plans tailored to multi-disciplinary projects
  • High-quality rendering capabilities using BIM software
  • Use of 4D simulation within BIM to incorporate time-based scheduling and sequencing, facilitating understanding of timelines and electrical system integration
  • Leveraging BIM capabilities to improve decision-making, cost estimation, procurement, and construction scheduling

Our experience

Resource Recovery and Re-Use Complex, Western Treatment Plant, Melbourne Water (in the pic): This is the largest water treatment project in Victoria, comprising a 250 MLD liquid stream and solid stream with a digester to create biogas. The electrical system for this plant is complex, with kilometres of cable ladders and underground conduits. We used BIM from tender design to detailed design and from early space-proofing to installation details. BIM ensured that collaboration on a multidisciplinary team of more than 100 engineers was seamless and enjoyable, fostering a one-team work culture.

A 132kV substation comprising an HV switchyard and a substation, Ausconnex: Typically, switchyards are completed in 2D due to the complexity of HV equipment 3D design. However, we worked with vendors to create 3D models of every piece of electrical equipment, down to the connection details to LoD400, and rendered the whole switchyard.

Mt Martha clarifier upgrade and new switchroom, South East Water: We undertook electrical concept design in BIM to help the client visualise the end result. Typically, 3D detailing is developed during the detailed design stage. However, we see value in developing it in the concept and early stages to demonstrate a facility’s look and feel.
